For the past 15 years, Identity Theft has been the top consumer complaint reported to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

In 2014, they received over 330,000 complaints from consumers who fell victim to identity theft. Now, they have a website dedicated to the crime.

The FTC has launched their website, IdentityTheft.gov, to make reporting and recovering from Identity Theft much easier.

The layout of the page is a simple checklist of things to do right away, how to repair the damage that may have been done to your credit and additional steps that might be required based on your situation.

Other features of the website include step-by-step instructions on how to report Identity Theft, how to deal with the credit bureaus, limiting financial losses and specific state and federal rights.

The site is a great step forward in highlighting the seriousness of the crime, as well as dealing with it in the digital environment. Take a few minutes becoming acquainted with the website as part of your secure identity strategy.
